At Karma Zen Acupuncture, every visit is more than just acupuncture. Treatments are thoughtfully layered with additional healing therapies designed to support deep relaxation, pain relief, and whole-body balance. Two favorites that patients absolutely adore—along with a our festive visitors—are infrared light therapy and moxa.

This week, the clinic has been glowing with warmth, comfort, and a little holiday mischief from PinelopeZentleyKarmichael, and Merrydian.

Infrared Light Therapy: Gentle Warmth, Deep Healing

Infrared light therapy is included in many treatments at Karma Zen Acupuncture because it works beautifully alongside acupuncture to encourage faster healing.

It’s soothing… warm… calming… and incredibly effective.

And according to our festive little visitors, it’s downright delightful, especially Merrydian, who has fallen in love with it.

He curls up under the warm, glowing lamp and drifts right into a cozy nap. The gentle heat melts away tension and warms him from nose to tail.

Meanwhile, Pinelope, Zentley, and Karmichael are also enjoying the comforting glow as they take turns relaxing beneath the lamp, whispering that it feels “like a tiny vacation during treatment.”

Benefits of Infrared Light Therapy

  • Reduces muscle stiffness
  • Relieves joint and soft-tissue pain
  • Boosts circulation
  • Encourages cellular repair
  • Supports relaxation and stress reduction
  • Enhances the effects of acupuncture

It’s one of many tools that make treatments at Karma Zen Acupuncture deeply restorative from the moment you settle in.

Exploring Moxa: Ancient Warmth, Modern Wellness

While Merrydian naps peacefully under the infrared lamp, the elves and Karmichael have been inspecting something else in the clinic: moxa.

Moxa—also called moxibustion—is a traditional therapy used in East Asian medicine. It involves burning dried mugwort near or on the skin to gently warm specific acupuncture points.

The elves were fascinated by the soft herbal scent and the ancient roots of the practice. Karmichael, curious as ever, waddled over to sniff the moxa sticks… and gave an approving nod before waddling off again.

Benefits of Moxa

  • Warms the channels and boosts circulation
  • Eases chronic pain
  • Helps with digestive issues
  • Strengthens immunity
  • Reduces menstrual or abdominal discomfort
  • Supports cold hands/feet and “cold” energetic patterns
  • Calms stress and enhances overall vitality

It’s one of the many traditional tools Dr. Katrina uses to help patients feel their best.

Treatments That Go Beyond Acupuncture

At Karma Zen Acupuncture, care goes far beyond needles. Treatments may include:

  • Infrared therapy
  • Moxa
  • Cupping
  • Gua sha
  • Ear seeds
  • Herbal Liniments
  • Herbal recommendations

Each session is designed to be relaxing, effective, and holistic—something our festive friends are experiencing firsthand.

Pinelope, Zentley, Karmichael, and Merrydian love joining patients in their wellness journey, soaking up the warmth, peace, and healing energy of the clinic.

And whether you’re an elf, a penguin, a St. Bernard, or a busy human—warmth, rest, and good care go a long way.
